As a 6th grader, you will embark on an exploration of the French, the German and the Spanish languages and related cultures. We will be exploring topics such as culture, geography, and most importantly the language itself. Each exploration will occur once a week for an entire quarter before moving on to the next experience. In the spring, at the end of the rotations, you will have a chance to choose a language of study for the 7th and 8th grade years.
The GOAL of the program is to pique the learner’s curiosity about language learning and instill an appreciation of other peoples and cultures, to generate interest as well as to expose learners to three different languages therefore providing them with a basis on which to make a decision about further language study at the middle school level. This is the time to get students motivated to continue learning another language of their choosing in 7th and 8th grade and lay a basic foundation of future expectations.
Grades will reflect participation, effort and basic mastery of introductory material. There is no way to fail unless you do not try! There will be no homework, just optional practice, preparation and exploration!
